Rabbi Lynne Goldsmith is the fifteenth rabbi to serve at Temple Emanu-El, effective August 2007. She is also Temple Emanu-El's first female rabbi.
Rabbi Goldsmith was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in July of 2007. Her thesis topic was the history of Outreach, the Reform Jewish program which invites unaffiliated Jews to become an active part of the Jewish community. Rabbi Goldsmith's warm, welcoming manner is a good fit with Temple Emanu-El's hamishe atmosphere where congregants live and feel part of a warm, extended family. The congregation's commitment to growth and change is also one that resonates with Rabbi Goldsmith. A unique initiative spearheaded by the congregation's Blumberg family is working to attract Jews to Dothan and help Temple Emanu-El enhance its growth. Rabbi Goldsmith is an integral part of this effort.
God has commanded Jews to a life of study in order to live the life that God has commanded. Rabbi Goldsmith is committed to life long learning, begnning with pre-school and continuing on through the adult years. She teaches both in the religious school and offers an array of adult education courses.
Rabbi Goldsmith is married to Robert Goldsmith and they have two adult sons, Michael and Daniel.
